A book edition of new artworks, 10,000 hours takes as its starting point contemporary practices that negotiate concepts of lost time and ideas of lost crafts.
An association is often drawn between notions of ‘lost time’ and the figure of the slacker. Theorists frequently associate this idea with attempting to withdraw from time or to whittle away time, and with the desire to practice precariously - to produce a loaded lightness. This book sets itself in opposition to this affiliation, striving to denote ideas of lost time with notions of taking, using and marking time, in a manner that is both generative and productive.
Each of the artists in 10,000 Hours in some way works to construct new models, rather that deconstruct old ones, and sketches parallel scenarios, often in relation to an un-particular here or now. In addition, 10,000 Hours presents new works by artists who evince an unyielding commitment to the skills, traditions and craftsmanship of another discipline, disavowing the dilettantish trend to which ideas of the crossover have become yoked.
